Bears Pictures - Threats
In North America, the population of black and brown Bears has dramatically decreased since the beginning of the 20th century. The main factors are poaching for the Asian medicinal market and habitat encroachment. Nowadays these species are common, but require special attention. In some states of the USA Bears are allowed to
be hunted, but the hunting season is restricted and not all methods of hunting are allowed. Spring hunting, baiting and other unethical methods are banned. Polar Bears are extremely water-dependent, so environmental pollution threatens this species greatly. Being the last in the food chain, these animals accumulate dangerous agents from food. The governments of the USA, Canada and Russia protect this species.
The Asian black Bear is almost extinct due to habitat destruction and poaching. The sloth and sun Bears are endangered due to the same reasons. The giant panda, the symbol of endangered species, also suffers from habitat destruction and lack of food.
Bears Pictures - Living in the Bear Country
Some animals get used to human food and begin to raid dumps and camping places searching for provisions. Some of these animals become dangerous and may even attack people. To avoid such unpleasant situations it is important to have a secure property. The house and the yard should be clear of Bear attractants, such as livestock feed, waste bins, fruit trees, rotten materials and other things. Bears are very intelligent and curious; they are even able to take the sealed containers with food from the windowsills and from cars.
