Koala Bear Picture
In the Koala Bear picture, you’ll see a cute baby-like animal with a large head and dense fur. These animals are not related to bears; it’s their teddy-bear appearance that made people who discovered them think they are Australian relatives of European or American bears. Actually, Koalas are marsupials. It means that Koala females have a pouch where newborns develop. The kids of the marsupials are born very small and helpless. They stay in a pouch for several months and are fed mother milk. In Australia, there are many marsupial species; the kangaroo being the most well-known one.
Koalas are noted for their quiet personality and slow movements. In the Koala Bear picture, you are likely to see a sleeping or eating animal. The major part of the Koala’s diet consists of eucalyptus leaves. Since the diet of the Koala is not rich in nutrients, it sleeps during the day to save energy. However, in the zoos, Koalas switch to the diurnal lifestyle, as they are provided with enough food.
Though in the Koala Bear picture, we can see a very melancholic and slow-moving animal, Koalas are very muscular and endurable. Their limbs are strong enough to support the body weight for hours. The body of the Koala is rather lean; the rounded appearance is created by its dense coat. Koalas have difficulties when moving on the ground, because their front and hind legs are of the same length and the slaws are long, curved, and non-retractable.
When on the ground, Koalas are an easy prey for large predators and hunters. By the beginning of the 20th century, these animals have almost been exterminated for their fur. Nowadays, Koalas are out of danger thanks to the effective conservation program, though their population will never return to its original range. Being dependent on the eucalyptus, Koalas cannot be introduced to other areas. Only 35 eucalyptus species out of over 800 known are safe for Koalas. Eucalyptus trees that grow on infertile soil have high concentration of toxins and cannot be consumed by Koalas. In the Koala Bear picture, we can also see Koalas eating leaves of wattle and tea tree.
